ERUPTION 9
The competition got off to a great start with us winning our first match. We felt we did strongly through the seeding matches even though there was no score board. We weren't in the top 8, but got picked by seed THREE, team 1676, in an alliance with team 293. We performed strongly through the quarter finals and semi finals not losing one match. Trouble aroused in the semi finals, our right rear mecanum wheel jammed, and lost a roller. This lead us to look at all the bolts, which many were loose or about to fall off. After repairing the wheels we looked at the opposing allience, which had team 25 which hosted Eruption 9, and was a strong opponent scoring 15 points in one round. We lost both finals rounds, but still went home winners with valuable experience and a cool trophy.
GirlPower Spirit Award WINNER!!!
The Girl Power competition is an off-season competition hosted by Team 433, the Firebirds. The competition began slowly for Team 3123 as the girls got used to driving the robot and playing the game, but as the drivers got used to the game, they exceeded our expectations. We placed 7th out of the 11 competing teams during the seeding rounds and were selected by the 3rd-place alliance. We won our first match in the finals, but unfortunately lost the next two. The last two were very close matches, intense, and exciting to watch. We are excited for our teams accomplishments, for they played the opposing alliance which included MOE and the Firebirds. This powerful alliance later won the finals. Great job girls! Competing at the same level as veteran teams is an outstanding achievement! The Girl Power Competition provided excellent exposure for all the new team members to the excitement of FIRST: the intensity, the nail-biting, the quick-fixes in the pits, and best of all, the amazing inspiration for science and technology! All teams had a blast at this fantastic event! And here comes the icing on the cake that our veteran team members will not believe: WE WON THE SPIRIT AWARD!!!! We received a nice pink trophy for our mascot, the excessive cheering, our positive attitude, and the fact that half of the people dancing at any one time on the field were our very own WildCogs.
